Released on the 4th of January 2016, Clash Royale is a real-time mobile strategy game that has attracted a lot of curiosity as it is a spin-off of the hugely popular ‘Clash of Clans’.
The game uses card-based game play with each player having their deck of cards, choosing a maximum of eight cards to be used against their opponents in a battle. Ranks determined by the amount of trophies which are awarded through wins. Winning also award certain ‘chests’ which take a predetermined amount of time to open (e.g. 3 hours, 8 hours or 12 hours for silver, gold and magic chests). Similar to most mobile apps such as Bejeweled and Candy Crush, they have a ‘freemium’ model where it is free to play but one can make in-app purchases.
It is only available on IOS and in a few countries currently (AU, NZ, HK), but a global launch has already been announced for March 2016 with support for Android as well.
Already there has been a number of YouTubers streaming and recording their Clash Royale gameplay as it continues to grow in popularity and players. GamingwithMolt is one such videogamer who has released numerous videos about Clash Royale, including a recent one where he became no.1 in the whole game. A commercial released by Supercell offers a bit more insight into the game.
